Winter sports in Zillertal

Slopes

The Super Zillertaler area is good for more than 650 km slopes. It consists of the areas Penken, Ahorn, Hoch Fugen, Hoch Zillertal, Fugen, Zell am Ziller, Koningsleiten, Gerlos and the Hintertux. This makes it possible to take different routes every day. In the Penken area you can also find the ‘Harakiri’. This slope is famous for being the steepest in Austria.

Freeriding

With the fall of fresh powder the freeride possibilities are endless in the Zillertal region. Part of the Penken area lies in the forest, which makes it perfect for tree runs. The higher areas of the Penken are steep and perfect for deep powder turns. Should you run out of powder, than the neighbouring areas of Mayrhofen offer plenty off-piste adventures. These areas are a smaller, quiet, and family orientated, meaning freeriding has not yet been made a sport here so fresh powder is easy to find. For the ultimate freeride experience you can choose to discover the backcountry of Zillertal with a guide.

Freestylen

Mayrhofen carries the title of having one of Europe’s best funparks, the Vans Penken Park . It is no surprise that you will find some of the best pro snowboarders and freeskiers in Mayrhofen. The Vans park consists of a Fun-, Public-, Jib- and ProLine. For every level skier or boarder there are different kinds of obstacles and jumps to practise tricks on. The park offers several kickers, rails, boxes, wall rides, pyramids, corners, tree-jibs and a halfpipe. The park has its own chairlift to ensure you get enough runs in your day. If you’re fed up with the Vans park you can always practise your freestyle moves in the Hintertux funpark.
